India-Kenya Partnership Programme for CWC Implementation Under OPCW

A delegation from India’s National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) is visiting Kenya this week [3-7 June] under a mentorship programme sponsored by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The partnership is designed to extend support to the Kenya National Authority for full implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention. India’s delegation is led by Ms Indra Mallo, Joint Secretary, NACWC, Government of India.

The Indian delegation is interacting with Kenyan stakeholders led by the National Authority of Kenya at Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority and including delegates from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior & National Administration, office of the Attorney General, Technical University and Kenya chemical industry representatives. The focus of their visit is to expand the technical support to Kenya by sharing India's best practices, knowledge and experience in this area, including in drafting a robust legislative and regulatory framework.

The OPCW sponsored mentorship/ Partnership program between India and Kenya was initiated last year under the Chairpersonship of Mr. Mukhmeet Singh Bhatia, Chairman, NACWC, through a series of virtual meetings on the priority thematic areas identified by Kenya National Authority in their Results Framework Document.

The visit will be followed by further interactions and engagements between the two sides under this mentorship programme. The programme will enhance the bilateral cooperation between National Authority CWC of India and National Authority of Kenya in matters related to Chemical Weapons Convention.
