Ministry of Education, Government of India, has launched the ‘Study in India (SII) Portal', aimed at positioning India as a global study destination. The portal was launched on 3rd August 2023. SII portal is a one-stop platform for international students, facilitating application submission, admission processes, and visa applications for those seeking to pursue regular, short-term, or long-term courses in Indian academic institutions or Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs). Hence, serving as a gateway to India's higher education ecosystem. All foreign students who wish to study in India, will now have to mandatorily register on the SII portal and submit the required information on the portal. Upon registration, the portal generates a unique ID or ‘SII-ID’ which will be quoted on the student visa application.
You may also be aware that the Ministry of Home Affairs has recently launched the e-Student Visa, enabling application of student visa using their SII-ID via the Indian Visa Portal. Hence, for operationalisation of e-Student Visa it is important that all incoming foreign students mandatorily register themselves on SII Portal.
